Finally, something truly shocking.

Re the pug dog guy, I think he's only got himself to blame. I've found myself at odds with a lot of people I respect, Matt Haig, David Baddiel, and the like who've defended free speech, but I'm off the view that jokes with the feed line "gas the Jews" are indefensible.

I don't believe he was inciting racial hatred for one minute. He just comes across as an immature, attention-seeking dickhead who wasn't loved enough as a child - there are plenty of those online.

i guess it is all about opinions... but he was talking to his dog... surely it is the context that matters... he sayings go out and gas the jews... i didn't think that line was funny but the video is funny when the dog reacts... i think you are going down a dangerous road when you convict someone for telling a joke.. are a lot of jokes offensive, yes they are but it will get ridiculous if people report ever comedian to the police if they feel they're being offensive.

Ruddy waste of police time and court costs, IMO. I would have arrested him for those freaky earlobes and beard though.

I'm consistent. If it'd have been Muslim who got himself into hot water for thinking it was funny to teach his girlfriend's parrot to say "Let's blow up the MEN Arena" I'd be saying he brought it on himself too. Call me a cynic, but I strongly suspect the legion of agitated alt-right types presently on their high horses about freedom of speech would be a little quieter in that situation.

He should have been booted off Youtube and given a caution. I agree with Mish, the courts have bigger fish to fry.

Baddiel , Gervais, Stephen Fry and many many more on the left I could mention were standing up against the conviction. So to talk about right or left is totally missing the point. You say he should have been booted off youtube, well he wasn't as they have classed it as a joke. Yes a joke, but when you start to ban things you are on a slippery slope. There is no going back when someone gets arrested for comments or doesn't get allowed into the country and you disagree with that then don't expect any sympathy, because you have already agreed with the principal. And from what I have read this wasn't some guy that wanted attention, he had 8 subscribers when he put up the video - to have a joke at his girlfriends expense - and in the article below it states that "he now faces up to six months in jail unless he can find £50,000 to mount an appeal against the conviction, and the comments of the sheriff in the case suggest he should expect a sentence at the upper end of the scale."

My opinion is it is a bigger thing that trying to get a conviction against a dog owner or a couple of guys having a laugh - black humour or am i not allowed to say that now - about photoshop. It is about getting test cases for censoring people on the internet. Just read the link below and that will give you an idea of how ridiculous things are getting.

This is one of the reasons why extremist terror groups laugh at us.

Last Friday, Ahmed Hassan was convicted at the Old Bailey of placing a bomb on a packed rush-hour train last September. The device left at Parsons Green, London, failed to detonate. But various interesting details emerged at his trial. One was confirmation that Hassan should never have been in the UK in the first place. He had travelled to Calais illegally and there spent time in the illegal ‘Jungle’ camp – that place whose occupants Lily Allen and Juliet Stevenson forever tell us we must take in if we are not to be deemed bigots.

‘As part of his questioning by the Home Office in Croydon in January 2016, Hassan was asked: “Have you previously or are you part of a terrorist group, for example Isis?”

Hassan replied: “Yes, I was recruited by Isis for three months. They trained us on how to kill and it was all religious based.”
Asked how he got away, Hassan said: “Iraqi soldiers came into the Isis territory and told everyone to go and some of the children stayed, some died and some went back to their families.”

When he was asked if Isis sent him to Europe to work for them, Hassan said: “No.”

Instead of getting Hassan out of the country ASAP, the UK continued to do everything it could for him, including finding him a school place and placing him with a foster family to whom they forgot to mention the Isis stuff.

Fortunately only the detonating device on Hassan’s bomb went off. It failed to trigger the full device. As a result some 30 people had their hair singed, or were wounded in the panic and many more terrified – including the many school children on that train on their way to morning classes. It is only thanks to a slight flaw in Hassan’s bomb-making skills that are we not now mourning (or singing ‘Don’t look back in anger’ over) another 30 or so dead British children.

Can anyone else see the problem here? The British state currently has to find a reason to explain why saying ‘Allah is gay’ is a fundamental assault on British values, but admitting to being a trained member of Isis is not. It has to explain why approaching the borders legally can lead to expulsion but breaking into the country illegally cannot.

for me this is shocking... I don't get it, where is the thought process with people... your sitting down and a blind man in this case gets on bus / tube whatever it is and if all seats are taken you get up and offer the person your seat, don't you? but to just sit, i'm sorry i'll never understand that. Is that really the state we are in now. You would think that one person would have the manners to offer him a seat. I can't get my head around that. When I hear about things like this I think we have no chance.
