Sad to say

Post by Backfromblack » Sun Dec 17, 2017 1:34 pm

I have to start off by saying it was a nice gesture to try and hold on to the old community.
It just hasn't and won't work. The old forum died years ago really for several reasons. I dont think the community really held together on the strength of Graham being active, but seeing as our man has more or less retired as a consistent solo artist, its unlikely to ever attract new fans.

So the problem here is trying to attract the old gang back. No one is coming back, and it's really sad to see you Steve getting a bit angry at lack of posts or replies. I do understand it though...

Those of us who stay in contact do so on Facebook or Twitter. I feel compelled to pop in here occasionally to see if the situation has changed but its just getting more desolate.

I am anonymous here, sorry to take the cowards way out. As someone who was on the old forum, I respect the legacy and friendships made but I think it should be left in the past.

I think you reactivated the forum for the right reasons Steve, but it hasn't worked and its extremely sad to see.

Feel free to delete this post. Its not to antagonise. I just care

xx

I don't know how long ago the forum died, I'm fairly sure it was before I showed up around 2009. It's been pretty damn dead for as long as I remember.

I quite like the fact it's stubbornly lingering on. The co.uk was wound down and yet it continues, resurrected and risen like a phoenix from the flames every bit as nearly dead as it was before.

That's just me though. I was quite happy chatting with a porn bot yesterday. Any port in a storm and all that.

I think the glory days were certainly 2004 > and for a long spell after that.
I know many former members who were the bedrock of the original community that will never come back. Coupled with no chance of a major insurgency of new folk, I wonder why we're here .

I just find this all sad to watch. I guess its like the last few days of Brookside or the Bill when you're no longer there for the story but the drama.

There's parts of me that miss the old days which is why I plucked the courage to be open and honest here.

It is not about holding on to the "old" community it is more about having a base for anyone who wants to discuss Graham's music or the other stuff we talk about. After the old forum was closed we needed a new home and this was as good a place as any to host it. We have a really good group on here, yes it is small but that's okay, if more people want to join in then great but if not we'll continue to keep going. In the future Graham will release new music and this forum will be around for fans to talk about it. I think Foggy hit the nail on the head with his post.

Like I said, the forum is here if anyone wants to post. The decision to close the forum was not taken by Graham's management, in fact they talked with me about starting a new one. It was the label that closed the forum. A new forum might come back at some point but what i can promise is this will always be here for anyone who wants to use it. It couldn't be easier to join. so as far as i'm concerned it is up to the individual but i do find it interesting when you say "No one is coming back" - that's fine, but why come back to say that?

As for me getting angry  you couldn't be more wrong, i'm as happy as i've ever been. i like this place and i like the people. to be honest some of my comments that you might be talking about are in the most done with a bit of tongue-in-cheek. Don't always take my comments seriously. I guess i see the funny side in some things that others might not.

I find it a bit surprising that you felt the need to be anonymous but that's okay. :)

You make it sound like Steve is harassing you to rejoin. Going by your passive-aggressive posts, I can't think why he would bother wasting his time!

That's quite hurtful and very untrue.
Anyway, good luck with the forum. I hope it picks up for you soon.

I don't think any of us are that fussed about whether it picks up or not.

This whole exchange is a bit weird. It's like sitting in a remote country pub where Zorro bursts in, proclaims he used to drink there in the golden age of pubs, and says "It'll never be like it was before the smoking ban. I hope this gets taken over by Wetherspoons."

No, it's alright masked stranger. We're fine.

I'm definitely not.
